Chipata General Hospital
Introduction Chipata General Hospital is located in the town of Chipata. Chipata is the provincial capital for the Eastern province and located approxiamtely 550km from the capital city Lusaka. It has an estimated population of approximately 75,000 (2000 census). It serves as a popular stopover route on the way to and from the South Luangwa National Park and the Malawian border to and from Lilongwe.

About the Hospital The Hospital was opened in 1976 and serves as the Government referral centre for the area It has approximately 458 beds and 56 Baby cots. It provides a full range of primary and secondary health services. It has a total of 380 staff with 8 Doctors, 13 Clinical Officers and more that 30 Nurses at present. It also has a Nursing school on site. It does not provide any electives for Medical Students. Recently the Hospital has been upgrading it's Diagnostic Capacity under ORATE and is also one of the institutions in the country piloting Telemedicine. |
